Redlands Primary School, Worksop

At Redlands Primary School the requirement was to provide separation for two areas within a sports hall. The opening was 14 metres wide by 3.8 metres high and the Panels needed to stack remotely. Normally a straight forward project but the Finish Specification made it more challenging. Artwork created by the pupils was to be presented on the face of four of the Panels; the theme was the history of the school and surrounding area.

Solution
The scheme was to provide Hufcor's Multi-Directional Series 8643 Operable Wall comprising of 12 multi-directional Panels and an Inset Pass Door. The Panels to stack into a remote pocket 4.5 metres from the main track.

The artwork design was provided to us on CD by Nottinghamshire County Council's Design Department and this was then printed onto photographic paper and applied to four of the 3.8 metre long MDF boards. This was finished with a laminating process to provide protection and allow for easy cleaning. Back at Hufcor's Castle Donington factory the boards were incorporated into the Panel construction and subsequently delivered to site and carefully installed along with the remaining eight vinyl covered Panels.

We are pleased to say that the Headmaster Mr Chris Honey, his staff, the children, and everyone connected with the project were delighted with the result!

Ashbourne Sports Hall, Ashbourne

At Ashbourne Sports Hall the requirement was for an impact resistant sliding folding partition on the four storage areas off the main hall. Equally important was the need to maintain a flush face on the sports hall side for safety reasons. An Access Door with mortice lock was also required.

Solution
Hufcor's Timberfold top hung Partition has a solid timber core and with the bottom channel/guide and steel top track forms a high impact solution. A four Panel Sidefold system was provided, one Panel hinged to a jamb at one end and acting as a pass door. By using a 60mm thick leaf and accurate positioning of the top track it was possible to achieve a flush face with the adjacent walls thus avoiding a potential hazard for the sports hall users.

Alumwell Business Enterprise, Walsall

When Alumwell Business Enterprise were looking to create a high tech computer area as part their Specialist Schools Trust status a moveable wall system was a perfect solution to give maximum flexibility of the available space. The brief was to separate the area into three sections with the possibility to create any one section whilst leaving the remainder clear; two inset pass doors were required. A top hung system was preferred which would be supported from pre-formed concrete roof supports whose load capacity was unknown.

Solution
after a detailed site survey and discussions with the structural engineer it was decided that a floor supported system was required. The Hufcor Series 8543FS was supplied which achieved a sound reduction of 43dB in laboratory tests. The top guiding track was supported from secondary steelwork and a stainless steel floor track was surface mounted. To give full flexibility a 3-way moveable meeting post and three Operable Walls with stacking at the end of the main track were provided. The Panels were hinged together in pairs with strings of three at the Inset Pass Door positions. Felt pen 'Magiboards' were incorporated into four of the Panels and the remainder finished in a fabric backed vinyl from the Chantry range.

Making It, Mansfield

Nottinghamshire County Council has created a family attraction for 'inquisitive minds and active hands' in the heart of Mansfield within an old brewery building. Flexibility of space was an important factor during the design process and an area off the main reception was set aside for seminars for small groups of children and students, but for larger groups the entire area including the reception was required. The opening dimension between the two areas was 9.6 metres wide x 2.7 metres high and personnel access was required at both ends. An 'open space' feel was required and sound reduction was not of high importance.

Solution
Hufcor's Glasswall partition offered the perfect solution. Constructed from 12mm thick panes of toughened glass with only narrow profile rails at the head and floor the appearance of a solid glass wall is achieved thus maximising the passage of light and giving the impression of a large open space. A nine panel system was provided with two being pivoted to act as pass doors; the remaining seven panels side stacked at one end. The fascia boards around the track and stacking area were also supplied by MK Door Systems as well as the support steelwork for the stack pan.
